Terms of Service

Last updated: 8 August 2026

1. The service

reBike rents out checked second-hand bikes in Aveiro, Portugal, for periods of 1 to 6 months. By booking a bike you agree to these terms.

2. Booking and handover

You choose a bike and schedule a meeting through your account. The rental begins when the bike is handed to you in person. You may cancel or reschedule a meeting up to 24 hours before it starts.

3. Payment and deposit

  • The rental fee is €15 per month, capped so it never exceeds the value of the bike.
  • A refundable deposit of €60 is paid at handover, in cash or by Revolut.
  • The deposit is returned in full when you return the bike in good condition, minus the cost of any repairs needed beyond normal wear.

4. Using the bike

You are responsible for the bike while it is in your care. Please lock it whenever it is unattended, follow local traffic rules, and do not lend it to anyone else or take it outside the Aveiro region without telling us. You must be at least 18 years old to rent.

5. One-month guarantee

Every bike is checked before handover. If a fault that was already present at handover shows up during the first month of your rental – the kind of problem that would normally become noticeable within that time – we will repair it or swap the bike for another at no cost to you. This guarantee does not cover punctures, brake pad wear, routine adjustments, or any damage caused by an accident, misuse or normal wear, which are handled under section 6.

6. Damage, loss and theft

Report any damage, mechanical issue, loss or theft to us as soon as possible, and in the case of theft also file a report with the police. Do not attempt major repairs yourself. While the bike is in your care you are responsible for it, and you are liable for the cost of putting right anything beyond normal use.

Normal wear that we cover includes things like a flat tyre from a puncture, worn brake pads, a slipped chain, minor scuffs, or a light that stops working. You do not pay for these.

Damage you are liable for includes, for example:

  • A missing or damaged wheel, saddle, pedal, handlebar, light, lock, basket or other part that has to be replaced – you pay the cost of the replacement part and fitting.
  • A bent, cracked or badly dented frame or fork, or a wheel buckled so it cannot be trued – if the bike can be repaired you pay the repair cost; if it is not economical to repair, you pay the full replacement value of the bike.
  • Damage from a crash, from leaving the bike outside in a way that lets it be vandalised, or from carrying loads or passengers the bike is not built for.
  • Water, rust or seizure damage caused by leaving the bike unprotected for a long period.

Loss or theft. If the bike is lost, or stolen while unlocked or locked only by its own wheel lock, you pay its full replacement value. If it is stolen while properly secured with the lock we provide and you give us the police report, your liability is limited to the deposit.

We first assess the bike and give you a written estimate. Any amount you owe is taken from your €60 deposit; if the cost is lower you get the difference back, and if it is higher you pay the remainder.

7. Returns

To return the bike, schedule a return meeting from your profile. The rental ends, and your deposit is settled, when the bike is handed back. If you keep the bike beyond the agreed period without arranging an extension, additional monthly fees continue to apply.

8. Liability

reBike provides the bikes in good working order but is not liable for injury, loss or damage arising from your use of a bike, except where Portuguese law does not allow that limitation.

9. Contact and law
